Welcome Spring!

by Geoff Craven, NAMTC President, Central Susquehanna IU 16
After a long and cold winter in the Northeast – it’s finally here!  As flowers begin to bloom, temperatures climb, and students prepare for their senior prom – it’s hard to believe the school year is rapidly coming to a close.  In another month many of us will already begin preparations for next school year which may include upgrading computer hardware, networks, or possibly implementing new digital content or on-line applications.  For others this time of year may include pursuing professional development opportunities such as learning new skills, maybe implementing Web 2.0 in their classroom.  Whatever the case, one thing is certain - we will soon close the chapter on this school year and open a new one for next.    As we begin to think about next school year – one cannot help but wonder what will be in store for next year.  This past year many schools and ESAs faced economic challenges due to a slumping economy which resulted in cutbacks in many organizations. Some districts have been able to restore program and staffing cuts using federal stimulus dollars while others have invested these funds in professional development and technology.  Regardless of how these funds are being spent by schools, they will have both a short and long-term impact on education and the... A Time of Change

Election Results

by Gary P. Ross, NAMTC Past-President, Lane ESD
Early spring is a time of change.  Depending on your part of the country, it brings melting snow with crocus blossoms poking through, flowering fruit trees, planting of peas, or a return to temperatures that no longer require scarves and gloves.  It is also when NAMTC begins the process of setting its direction for the next biennium.   This starts with the election of the NAMTC President-elect.  In the NAMTC governance structure, the individual who is elected to this position assumes a key leadership role in NAMTC, serving a three year term with the progression from President-Elect to President, to Past-President.  Each job carries... NAMTC OnLine Learning Workgroup

Survey Coming

by Geoff Craven, NAMTC President, Central Susquehanna IU 16
Last year at the NAMTC Annual Summit a small group of participants got together and began a discussion of how NAMTC members can discuss and share on-line learning opportunities with each other.  Recently this group reconvened electronically and continued this discussion and is beginning to take the next steps for sharing on-line learning opportunities with each other.  Beverly Knox-Pipes (MI), Antonio Pagan (MA) and Geoff Craven (PA) have prepared a survey form on on-line learning that will be distributed to all NAMTC members.  This information will be assembled and disseminated through the NAMTC web page.  In addition this group will also be conducting a presentation at the... by Ricki Chowning, REMCAM Michigan
As educators, we are bombarded by “techno” language that has crept into the media, into our lives and into our schools.   You may have seen the innovative and engaging commercial by Sprint,  “Welcome to the Now Network”, stating that “right this minute, 233,000 people are Twittering and 26% of you don’t even know what this is….”         Could you... Webinars Provided by NAMTC Corporate Members

Interactive and Travel Free!

by Betty G. Ehlinger, NAMTC Executive Director
Web-based seminars, called webinars, are interactive with the ability to give, receive and discuss information.  NAMTC is excited that a number of our corporate members are offering free exposure to new products and services by utilizing the technology that brings webinars to the desktops of our members and their staffs.  With limited and restricted travel dollars, it is important that interaction between company representatives and their clients continues.  Building relationships through webinars will provide expanded opportunities as the areas of media and technology evolve in the days ahead. In March, members were invited to participate in a webinar sponsored by VIP ToneAmerican Recovery and Reinvestment Act 2009 (ARRA) to Fund Next-Gen Services Delivery Infastructure in Educational Services Agencies was the topic.  In April and...
