Teacher Talk

Follett Software Joins Educational Leaders for
Florida Dept. of Education’s ‘Teacher Talk’ Episode

Follett Software Company joined other educational technology leaders to participate in a special episode of “Teacher Talk,” a new Orlando, Fla.-based television program hosted by the Florida Department of Education (DOE).

Dr. Elaine Roberts represented Follett Software as she addressed the audience, comprised of nearly 100 educators, and drew upon her nearly 25 years of experience in education to give insight into how the company’s innovative products are helping to promote 21st century learning in K-12 classrooms everywhere.

Roberts, Follett Software’s director of professional learning, singled out her company’s products such as Destiny® Library Manager™, the market leading, award winning K-12 library automation solution, and Cognite™, the company’s next-generation, web-based learning management system designed to integrate digital curriculum content into the classroom. She ended her talk by praising teachers for the important role they perform in educating today’s children.

The “Teacher Appreciation” episode, with a focus on professional development, was taped Feb. 17 at Walt Disney World’s Saratoga Springs Resort, and capped by a talk from Dr. Eric J. Smith, education commissioner for the Florida DOE.

During the special episode, the educators in attendance were surprised to learn they would receive numerous free products from the 19 participating vendors. More than $180,000 of free products that could be used in the teachers’ Florida classrooms were given away, including gift certificates from Follett Software that can be used toward selected goods and services from the company.

“I am grateful to each of our business partners for making this wonderful event possible and for contributing so generously to these educators,” said Commissioner Smith. “I can’t wait to hear about all the positive things they are able to do with these products as they work to build brighter futures for their students.”
“Teacher Talk” is produced by the Florida Knowledge Network that focuses on Florida teachers and their innovations both in and out of the classroom. Each show is made available to every school district in the state. The special Teacher Appreciation episode will air at 4 p.m. EST on Tuesday, March 8 through local channels, and will be webcast on the Florida DOE website at www.fldoe.org.
